Grants of up to $20,000 to USA artists of Korean heritage for the creation and exhibition of a specific project. Criteria for the grant include its impact on contemporary art and artistic merit. An ideal recipient is a mid-career artist with an impending project in need of financial assistance and a significant record of exhibitions.

The AHL–Jason J. Kim Grant is intended for mid-career visual artists who have already demonstrated an exceptional capacity in the visual arts and aims to assist these artists in realizing specific projects while building their capacity to sustain their productive long-term careers.

The main purpose of the grant is to support the artist’s creative process and to cultivate innovative and challenging work through financial assistance during key moments in the development of an art project.

This is a project-specific grant and can only be used for the creation and exhibition or execution of a specific artwork or project.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The AHL – Jason J. Kim Grant is a biennial grant up to $20,000.

Term of Contract:

The project must have a public component that takes place between October 2019 and September 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants are made on a project basis to visual artists of Korean heritage who are legal residents of the United States. The project must be of Museum level or of an equivalent institution level and must be a solo exhibition. Group exhibitions will not be accepted. Visual artists working in all media, including interdisciplinary genres will be considered. Applicants must not be enrolled in any degree program at the time of the application deadline.

Artists cannot use this grant for their living expenses.

Pre-Application Information:

- May 1, 2019: Submission deadline
- July 2019: Announcement of award
- November 2019: First installment of grant ($10,000)
- November 2020: Second installment of grant ($8,000)
- Project Conclusion (Date to be determined accordingly): Third installment of grant (grant balance)

Grant recipient must attend the Benefit Gala & Awards Ceremony to receive the award.
