Grants of up to $80,000 to South Dakota nonprofit organizations and local governments for homelessness prevention and emergency shelter activities. Funding is intended to support rapid re-housing assistance, homelessness prevention activities, emergency shelter facilities and services (including renovation), street outreach, participation in the Homeless Management Information System, and administrative expenses.
The Emergency Solutions Grant Program (ESG), formerly known as the Emergency Shelter Grant Program, is a federal block grant. The ESG expands the eligible activities to include short-term and medium-term rental assistance and services to stabilize and rapidly re-house individuals and households who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. SDHHC’s goal is to reach every community across South Dakota, assist every individual or family in need and ultimately end homelessness in South Dakota.

Maximum amount of grant funds eligible to be requested is $80,000.
Up to 7.5% may be used for administrative expenses for SDHDA and sub-recipients. Sixty-percent (60%) of the total funding will be available for street outreach and shelter operation activities and 40% will be available for homeless prevention and rapid re-housing activities.
