Grant Description

Grants to South Dakota nonprofit organizations, libraries, and schools to meet community needs in eligible regions. Funding may be used for programs that provide for basic needs, benefit children, increase access to mental healthcare, and address housing, education, and nutrition concerns. Eligible projects and programs are those that benefit the Black Hills area.

Grants focus on addressing the community's top needs:

  • Affordable, quality early education and school success programs
  • Access to affordable mental health care providers
  • Prevention & treatment services for substance abuse
  • Child and domestic abuse treatment and support services
  • Access to affordable housing and emergency housing/shelter
  • Access to diverse, emergency food programs
  • Economic opportunities including workforce development and services to improve a family’s economic situation
  • Removing transportation barriers to help clients access the services noted above

UWBH volunteers review the grants and make funding decisions in the spring. Funding begins in May and is paid in monthly installments for one year.
