Grant Description
Grants of up to $1,000 to USA educational institutions and nonprofit organizations for foreign language educational materials. Applicants must contact the funding source prior to submitting an application. Grant funds may be used for the purchase of teaching materials and cultural items for Japanese-language courses.

The eligible items for support are Japanese-language teaching materials (textbooks, audio-visual materials, dictionaries, digital learning software, teachers’ reference books, etc.) as well as cultural items (origami supplies, calligraphy sets, etc.)

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be non-profit institutions/organizations involved in Japanese-language education in the U.S.

Applicants must have a bank account in the institution’s name capable of accepting grants from the Japan Foundation. A bank account may also be opened before the grant payment. Receipt of grants or benefits from the Japan Foundation must not violate any laws or ordinances, etc.

Ineligible
Individuals are not eligible to apply.

The teaching materials purchased with the support from JFLA should become the property of the applying institutions, and should not be privately owned by instructors or students.

The grant will not cover electronics/hardware (laptops, projectors, tablets, camcorders, digital cameras, etc.) or consumable stationery supplies (papers, pens, markers, etc.).

In principle, the Japan Foundation does not provide grants for:
- The U.S. government, including their administrative organs such as ministries and their embassies and consulates-general in Japan; excluding academic, cultural, or research institutes such as universities and museums
- Institutions/organizations to which the Japanese government currently makes financial contributions
- Institutions/organizations whose laws restrict them from receiving aid from foreign organizations affiliated with governments
- Institutions/organizations which serve commercial, political, or religious purposes

Application Deadlines: March 15, 2023 and September 15, 2023

Please inform JFLA of your intention to apply for the program.

JFLA will only reimburse for items with relevant proof of payment. The reimbursement check will be made payable to the name of the applying institution. JFLA cannot make checks payable to individual teachers.
